Thailand - where it all started

It will come as no surprise that the Holland family has a special affinity with Thailand and particularly so for Tom and his bothers.

It is rare that a family gets to spend three months in such a beautiful place and during such a formative time in their young lives.

Visiting the numerous orphanages in Thailand, many of which were established after the 2004 tsunami (on which The Impossible is based) we became aware of Thailand’s complex social problems and we have long intended that The Brothers Trust should find a worthy organisation for us to support.

 Introducing Warm Heart Worldwide

A very neat fit for us. Recommended by a local friend who we trust and who volunteers for Warm Heart both on the ground during his visits and remotely from London using his energy and skills as an accountant. Warm Heart is similar in its ethos and operation to the Lunch Bowl Network doing such positive work in Kibera in Nairobi.

Warm Heart works with the most marginalised people in Thailand. Often hill people who even have their own language and have somehow been left behind by the development that Thailand has enjoyed via its tourism boon.

We have decided to specifically support Warm Hearts work with elderly people, too often a group that is forgotten and whose care is under-resourced.

Working with full time people on the ground, Warm Heart identify elderly people most at risk. They put in place structures that enable individuals to access all state provisions available. And they work on a more human level also, actually visiting the people they support. Sitting and chatting. Stimulating them with arts and music. Acting as their contacts and giving them the love and support to sustain them.

Thailand is a big county and these issues are sometimes intractable and appear hopeless. The Brothers Trust is unable to solve issues as systemic as this. But we can alleviate. By supporting Warm Hearts and their very precise and targeting care, we are confident that your money will directly improve the lives of people who otherwise would be forgotten and left to fend for themselves.
